The Games Have Begun: Google Announces Twitter Updates Are Also Coming to Google Search

Google LogoIt’s been only a couple of hours since Microsoft officially introduced the integration of Twitter updates into Bing. In the article, I mentioned that Microsoft had beaten Google, who has also been working with Twitter. Well now ladies and gentlemen, the games have begun, as Google announced a few minutes ago that it will also integrate status updates into the results of its search engine, Google Search.

Google’s Vice President of Search Products and User Experience, Marissa Mayer, made the announcement on an Official Google Blog post. Unfortunately, according to her statement, it seems as if Google will introduce the new feature gradually in the next few months. This is what she wrote:

“Given this new type of information and its value to search, we are very excited to announce that we have reached an agreement with Twitter to include their updates in our search results. We believe that our search results and user experience will greatly benefit from the inclusion of this up-to-the-minute data, and we look forward to having a product that showcases how tweets can make search better in the coming months. That way, the next time you search for something that can be aided by a real-time observation, say, snow conditions at your favorite ski resort, you’ll find tweets from other users who are there and sharing the latest and greatest information.”

We’ll have more information as soon as it becomes available.
