Google: Social Search Coming to Google Labs

The Google Vice President of Search Products and User Experience, Marissa Mayer, announced at the Web 2.0 Summit that a new experimental feature called Social Search. Social Search will launch in Google Labs in the coming weeks. When a user makes a search, it will gather information from a user’s preferred social networking sites and display the results relative to the user’s query on the bottom of the search index. For example, a search for restaurant could bring up your friends’ Yelp reviews.

At first, Social Search will be deployed as an opt-in service. Then, a Google account will be required, in which the user can add all his favorite social networking sites. This announcement came shortly after Mayer announced the future integration of Twitter updates into Google Search results.
