Apple to Launch Ad Campaign in Time for Windows 7 Launch

With only a few days left, everyone is getting ready for the official launch of Windows 7, including Apple. According to BusinessWeek, Apple will seize the opportunity to win over PC users by launching an ad campaign basically trashing Windows and portraying the Mac as a superior and better operating system. Apple’s senior vice-president for marketing, Philip W. Schiller said ”It presents a very good opportunity for us.”
The ads, as always, are expected to show that Macs are less vulnerable to viruses. Apple also plans to poke fun at Microsoft for “making XP owners go through an arduous process to upgrade to Windows 7—one that includes backing up all their files to an external drive, reformatting their PC, and then reinstalling all of their old programs, assuming they still have the CDs,” said the BusinessWeek report.
Philip Schiller added, “Any user that reads all those steps is probably going to freak out. If you have to go through all that, why not just buy a Mac?” Why? I’ll tell you why! Because for some users whose Windows XP computers are perfectly fine, it is more affordable to buy a $50 or $150 Windows 7 upgrade than to spend almost $1,500 on a Mac, that’s why.
I don’t know why Apple is showing so much insecurity and competitiveness. I mean we’ve already seen reports by analysts that clearly show Windows 7 will not have an impact on Mac sales. If anything, it might boost them.
Schiller went on to say: “I expect Snow Leopard will have an amazing upgrade rate, and Windows 7 won’t. We’ve been through these transitions before, and no matter how you look at it—it’s still Windows. When all is said and done, the Mac picks up share a bit at a time.” Ouch! He really trashed Windows there. I just want to say in defense of Windows that before Mr. Schiller starts talking crap about others, he should see the latest reports on Snow Leopard, the OS has had more problems than anything else.
Apple will be playing very dirty this month. But then again, all is fair in love and war.
