Breaking: Possible BlackBerry Internet Service Outage in North America

We’re getting reports in that there apparently appears to be a BIS (BlackBerry Internet Service) outage/message delays in North America. Using BIS here at Erictric, we are noticing some delay/delivery issues. I’ve just sent a message from my BlackBerry to my Gmail account and have not yet received it.
We’ll keep watching this. Are any of the BIS users out there having issues? If so, where are you located and what network are you on?
Update: Looks to be affected across all carriers.
Update 2: Many users reported outage at roughly 10 AM.
Update 3: We’ve attempted to make contact with our press contacts at Research in Motion and Verizon Wireless for more information on this and are waiting to hear back.
Update 4: Looks like things are clearing up for BIS users.

I haven’t received any messages on my BB since 10:52 this morning. I’m on AT&T in the DC area. Additionally, I can’t login to my BIS account on the web or through BB.
I called Verizon, 12:40PM EST 9/22/2009. They are having a nationwide outage.
Havnt had e-mail all morning. They confirmed outage.
Yup – no new emails since 11:08 am EST. I am on ATT in Manhattan.

Been having issues since roughly 9am, poor data service across all apps, email delivery is lagged, BB messenger is lagged. My device is Sprint, and is constantly switching between 1xRTT and EVDO. Have roughly chewed up 80% of my battery over time that usually drains 10%. Device is a 9630 (Tour)
I have been told about this from a close source to BB.
He has confirmed BIS outage.
I have tested multiple devices and providers.
Tests are sporadic;
-Sprint 8330 to Gmail worked fine (less than 1 minute).
-Sprint Tour to Gmail & Yahoo, still waiting after 20 minutes.
-AT&T 8310 to Gmail took 15 minutes.
Awaiting further samples.
Having the same issue as some of you. no email on my Verizon blackberry since 9:52AM ET. I also can’t get into the email setup on the BB.
Sprint user here. Same thing. No e-mails coming through, signal is hit or miss.Wish BB would post something on their web site.
It’s a North America wide outage for Blackberry Internet Service (Email only). Web Browsing, PIN and BB Messenger working fine.

Also having problem with Sprint. No email since about 10:00 this morning CST.

I’m in Georgia, my provider is AT&T. No email since 10 a.m.
I’m in Westchester County NY, 1 hour north of NYC. Verizon Wireless here, I stopped getting emails and facebook notifications at roughly 9:00 am this morning. A few of my co-workers in my office are having the same issue.
My Hotmail and Gmail messages aren’t being sent to the phone.
@Spinguru: Same in the Orlando area. Sporadic email being received since 11:00 Eastern.
We are seeing on ALL service providers.
I have learned that it was a Global Crossing router that failed. It effected the entire US. From my two locations, I see that all is well again.
Orange County California Verizon Storm user. No emails since around 7AM. Sent myself the service books, I have received two of four, they are trickling in.
starting to come in now. 2:48pm est.
i was out since 11am.

Just got 3 random Facebook Notifcations, and my office mate got 1 email from her Hotmail account. We both have Verizon and the Curve.
I had a few notifications on Facebook that didn’t come through with the 3, and she had more than one new email in her hotmail inbox.
I spoke with VZW, the rep said they were aware of the facebook issue but didn’t have an estimated time as to when it will be fixed. She had me on hold for a while regarding the email, this was about 2 hours ago and she came back and said that they think its a RIM issue, and they had been notified. She took my number and said she would call back with any updates. Again, this was roughly 2 hours ago and I haven’t heard back yet.
Problems here in Chicago also in a similar time frame (10-11am) as indicated by others. Problems sending/receiving, with spurts of messages getting through.

Just started getting FaceBook notifications again, they appear to be on time, and it appears as if they are all coming through.
Hotmail… Not yet.
Problems in TN. No email or facebook notifications since around 9:30 this morning. Received a message from blackberry.com asking me to reset my password. I followed the instructions, only now my email button has vanished, and I’m still getting nothing. Very, very frustrated.
@MelMac: Looks like things are slowly falling back into place. I’d give it a little while.

Verizon San Diego. My Tour is a brick.
Alberta Canada…Telus is the provider. No BBerry email since yesterday morning.
I have Sprint and yesterday (9/22/2009) only about 10% of my emails came through. Then after 3pm/pst all emails stopped… Still nothing this AM…

So, we are an enterprise customer. i just got off the phone with tier 2 support. It is pretty infuriating that they continue to deny any issue. They worked with me to verify our BB server functionality, but refuse to acknowledge the outage yesterday. Further, there is no mechanism for ent. customers to get system status or outage notifications. so, no i have hundreds of unhappy users to whom i cannot report the problem, nor when it will be resolved.
..and that is why i use my iphone with exchange active sync.
I work for a wireless carrier and I haven’t seen too many problems with the BIS in the last week. But, my Blackberry was not pulling in Gmail or my sprint.blackberry.net email. I resent the service books to myself on the BIS. And, that seemed to pull stuff in from both accounts in about 5 mins time. Which is good. Since, I’m relying on it right now.
Blackberry Curve with Verizon. I sent two emails from my gmail account to myself. They are in my gmail mailbox, but not on my blackberry. I am getting most of my emails on my blackberry though. I did just have to reboot my blackberry & have been getting some very strange “already updated from an external source” notices when I try to save contacts on my blackberry lately.
My internet went down around 2 a.m. central time, much earlier than most.
Im in Alabama. Im with verizon and still cant get on the internet or receive or send emails.
