Zune HD Is Finally Here!

Platinum ZuneHD

Just as promised, Zune HD has been released to the public today. It’s available for $219.99. As expected, its software is fully Windows 7 optimized. According to the official Microsoft press release:

“Later this year, Zune plans to release free applications such as Twitter for Zune and Facebook for Zune, in addition to fun 3-D games such as “Project Gotham Racing: Ferrari Edition,” “Vans Sk8: Pool Service” and “Audiosurf(TM) Tilt.” Games can be added to Zune HD via Zune Marketplace over the Wi-Fi connection or when connected to the Zune PC software.”

What makes this little guy very cool is the ability to integrate with Xbox 360, meaning you can stream HD video to the Xbox360. Users will also be able to buy or rent movies and/or TV shows. These are a few other things the Zune HD will feature:

  • Smart DJ – similar to the Apple’s Genius, Smart DJ organizes and creates playlists.
  • Quickplay Menu – a quick access from your Zune HD to your favorite media
  • Download to Own – this will allow you to buy HD movies and TV shows and actually keep them, or you can also rent them
  • Mini Player Mode – keeps a mine version of the player on top of the PC apps

Overall, the Zune HD sounds like some real competition. Watch out Apple!
