Apple Mac OS X Snow Leopard Coming With Anti-Malware?

Mac OS X Anti-Malware Warning

This story is running rampantly all over the web. Apple’s new operating system, Mac OS X Snow Leopard is said to come with an anti-malware software built-in. According to Beta testers, when the system detected a problematic DMG file – in this case one downloaded via Safari that contained the RSPlug Trojan horse,  a warning [see image above] popped up. The Register noticed that the anti-malware filter only detects files downloaded from common applications like Mail.app, Safari, Firefox, iChat, et cetera; but it ignores files downloaded from removable media.

It seems like on top of being old and boring, Apple’s new “I’m a Mac and I’m a PC” ad, is a little hypocrite for accusing PCs to be vulnerable to malware.

There are a couple of viruses out there. I’ve been using Intego since they switched to Intels incase anything showed up but have never actually needed it. If there are even a few known viruses, which there are, it makes sense to block them.
