Tr.im to Become Open Source; Has a Lot to Say About Everyone

On a blog post today, tr.im apologizes to users for last week’s ‘big fiasco’ and took the opportunity to announce that instead of shutting the site down or selling it, it will actually go open source. It will be “100% community-owned, operated and developed” on or before September 15th of this year. “But before that…,” as they say, they wanted to address a few people or websites, in an “it’s all your fault” kind of way.

The first to get lectured is Bit.ly for offering a super small amount of money [$10,000] for the Tr.im domain name and all its content. Twitter gets the second blame for apparently choosing Bit.ly over Tr.im. Next is 301works.org for being a “public relations stunt.” Last but not least, TechCrunch, because they supposedly “repeat verbatim what bit.ly/Twitter feeds them” instead of taking a few minutes to call them directly.

It’s not right to go blaming everyone who gets in the way for stuff that you should have seen coming. If you fail epically, you can’t point fingers at anyone but yourself. Right, Tr.im?
