Gmail Becomes 3rd Largest E-mail Service in The U.S.

gmailenvelopeWith more than 37 million unique users, and after leaving AOL Email behind, Gmail claims the the third spot among the largest e-mail services in the United States. In order to claim second place, Gmail needs about 11 million more users to leave behind Windows Live Hotmail, which has 47 million unique users.

The number one spot belongs to Yahoo! Mail because of its whopping [drumroll please] 106 million unique users monthly. It will definitely take some time and effort, even for Gmail, to surpass that. Check out Gmail’s progress [orange line] in the chart below. Dark blue line is Windows Live Hotmail and the light blue line is AOL Email.

Gmail Progress - Chart

Gmail’s unique visitors grew 25% this year, thereby outrunning AOL Email whose unique visitors dropped 22% in the same period of time. Way to go Gmail! We can’t wait to see you on the podium claiming second place soon.
