Instant Jury: Sue Your Friends And Family With Little Risk

instantjuryIn a nation where suing another is about as routine as brushing your teeth – comes Instant Jury, a site which allows users to post mini real-life cases, such as disputes between couples, roommates, friends, and of course, who could forget family?

The website is still fresh, and you’ll be able to find all sorts of cases to amuse yourself. Moreover, you’ll be able to take part in who wins a case based on opening and closing written statements written by both the plaintiff and defendant.According to the site, here’s how you sue:

  • Case Title - Be brief but creative. You want to lure possible jurors who will be browsing the site. Ex: Instead of “I Can’t Stand My Roommate” you could title the case “The Jerk Who Never Sleeps.” You get the idea. Have fun with it.
  • Case Summary - Here is where you want to briefly describe your case. Be careful not to give too much away. Just let the jury know what the case is about. Using the example above, a good description would be ” My roommate is up all hours watching tv with the volume on high.” You can elaborate further in your opening arguments.
  • Your Stakes - What good is it to sue someone if you can’t get something out of it? Here is where you can set some stakes on the case. The loser has to do ________ for the winner. Ex: Loser has to clean the apartment for one month.
  • Defendant’s first/last name - You must insert the defendants first and last name so we know who to summons. NOTE: THE DEFENDANTS NAME WILL NOT APPEAR ANYWHERE ON THE SITE.
  • Defendant’s email: Type in the defendant’s email where you want the summons to be sent.
  • Click Submit
  • Voila, an email will be sent to your enemy with an Instant Jury court summons. If you need that information in video form, here it is:

This is one of those “why didn’t I think of this” type of websites that has incredible potential and we look forward to seeing where it goes from here. We had the chance to ask co-founder Brett Reilly a few questions:

    When was Instant Jury founded?

“Beta site launched in November ‘08 with official launch in March ‘09″

    Whose idea was Instant Jury?

“Steve Pitt and I came up with the idea while constantly arguing with friends over fantasy football.”

How would you measure your success thus far?

“Incredible. From having very few users during the beta period to now having users in the thousands, the site has been well received internationally.”

What do you look forward to with Instant Jury?

“We have a video option for adding evidence. We hope that the users start to give their testimony over video as that is the way the internet is moving.

<sarcasm> No word yet as to when/if the site will handle real-life murder/robbery/fraud cases. </sarcasm>
