1 Billion YouTube Streams per day?

According to TechCrunch, they have confirmed that YouTube tops 1 Billion video streams in one day. To put that into perspective, thats one stream for every user on the internet – per day. One thing is for sure, it’s not cheap to fund that much bandwidth. In May, I questioned YouTube’s future, and I still do. Yes, it’s a very popular site, but at the end of the day it requires money to keep up and running. It’s not rocket science that YouTube brings in no where near the amount of funds to cover operating costs through advertising on the site. What does that mean? Well, it means the money is coming from elsewhere (Google). Soon enough, I feel YouTube (if not already) will become a waste of money for Google. Waste?! Remember, despite the fact that Google portrays itself as “helper of the internet”, they’re a business.
This is a milestone for YouTube. Hopefully, they can maintain their success and continue serving millions with video sharing.
